EXHIBITION ON PAINTING OF SECESSIONISTS
– THE UNHAPPY SPELL OF KUTTER
Joseph Kutter, the greatest of the secessionists, had to undergo between 1924 and 1932, that is to say for eight long years, a campaign without mercy, of perfect idiocy and of a monstrous resentment on the part of Lommel, Bishop of Luxembourg and director du Wort.
It was the dark time when expressionism, as a category of painting, fell into the Nazi sights where it was treated as Entartete Kunst.
5 years later, we will see a touching tangent emerge between Lommel and those who in Germany were going to burn the great artistic achievements which found no support among the barbarians from across the Rhine.
Let us not lose sight of the fact that at that time when clerical-fascism was rampant all over Europe, the Church was a political power which reigned supreme over society.
Kutter was going to suffer a real ordeal from the Wort, who never missed an opportunity to ridicule and humiliate him, which was very serious damage to his health.
Let it be recalled once again in this context that the Nazi brutes were hunting around the same time against German expressionists, a hunt which would experience the peak of crime and the most incredible barbarism on 07/19/1937 , on the occasion of the opening of the Entartete Kunst exhibition in Munich.
For Lommel, it could only be the consecration of what he thought and for which he was so committed.
Quoted in the work of Me Gaston Vogel: “For Jesus, the poor relation of Christianity. ”
