In 1938 and before, that is to say eighty years ago, arose with a rare acuity, the extremely serious problem of the Jewish refugees who no longer knew which Saint to turn to, to find a little warmth, security and protection, outside the cursed country.

The Catholic fold was hardly in favor of it.

The Wort für Wahrheit und Recht raises the “Emigrantenfrage” in its edition of 21.11.1938.

In October 1903 appeared an article entitled Verjudung der gegenwärtigen Führerschaft des Sozialismus ”.

From time to time, we air the texts that feel withdrawn by anti-Jewish anecdotes as painful as stupid, such, for example, “ein wohlriechender Hebräer” (12.08.1903).

In July 1921, in a feature article entitled “Zur Judenfrage”, the bishopric newspaper presented its readers with sympathy and conviction the forgery which was then circulating in Europe under the title of “Protocols of Zion”. On 25.03.1933 he wrote on the first page:

This is Germany’s best dam against the Russian attacks, and even if one is offered, this abhorrence battle is not purely spiritual to lead, but also with sharp measures, if it is not useful.In principle, therefore, national socialism was right… Man became Hitler and his movement of heart ERFLOG against Bolshevism … »

In a paper entitled “Große Buchstaben – Dicke Lügen”, and published on 04.04.1933, the Wort can hardly hide its anti-Semitism:

« Of course, the ‘Escher Tageblatt’ with the embodiments of the ‘Luxemb.Wort’ is concerned. not understand the events in Germany and the Jewish Greens in the world. On 28.04.1933, the Luxemburger Wort puts all its hopes in Nazism: « Methodically and thankfully, there is no better means of combat against socialism than national socialism. »

13.05.1933, the Luxemburger Wort explicitly states”Our point of view”, as well as the fascism of fascism prefers to the other systems: “It does not prevent anyone, in one… more truth than in others. And we emphasize again, that in many respects fascism and national socialism are as sympathetic as liberalism and socialism, because they are certain natural rights less so than they are.

 We therefore welcome and embrace the community and authority ideas of Fascism and National Socialism. We are absolutely trying to educate our people’s community and to neutralize all socially dangerous classes and party tensions. Only we learn its form and by all means its method. »

07/14/1933, the Luxemburger Wort as well as fascism and Nazism without the doctrine of infinitude plus profane and humane about socialism.

The cynicism of Wort presents an aspect of hiding, as it is written on 09.09.1935 in an article titled “The New Reich Flag”:

Well, the Wort attributes to the law relating to the adoption of a new national flag political importance that is far more consistent than to the anti-racist law which, however, inaugurates an era of barbarism of anti-racist magnitude never known in Europe.

On 05.10.1938, the Luxemburger Wort recognized Hitler as an apostle of peace, “so wird die Geschichte auch Adolf Hitler Gerechtigkeit widerfahren lassen in seinen Beiträgen zum Frieden. “

On 09.11.1938, the Nazis organized a general pogrom throughout the Reich; six hundred synagogues were burned and demolished, thousands of shops and Jewish homes were systematically looted. Many Jews were beaten and sent to concentration camps. Emigration became the only possibility to survive. Three hundred thousand Jews will leave Germany. The Wort does not devote a single protest bulletin to the Kristallnacht.

Thus on 10.11.1938, the Wort criticized the USSR. 11.11. he is interested in the issue of the Czech and Hungarian borders. 12 and 13.11. he praises Catholic action and so on. Three weeks after the horrors of 9.11.1938, at a time when the first Jews, survivors of Crystal Night, knocked on the door of the Grand Duchy to find a new homeland, the daily newspaper of the bishopric who had not reserved a word of criticism for the events which had just taken place, addressed to the emigrants a warning which ended with a slogan which spoke of comment: “Doch bei Allemand: Schutz des Luxemburgertums.
