at least the elderly greens feel as if they have returned to childhood. Their hearts will be filled with joy: because of the tensions and small military disputes between Americans and Iranians, there are certain chances that petrol prices will run through the ceiling! Donald Trump failed yesterday (fortunately), although the price of barrel fell by more than 4 percent on the international markets, but some hope can still be had! Meanwhile, in Luxembourg, the price of diesel has increased by 6.8 cents a liter, and gasoline is 5.3 cents more expensive. However, no arm is left. For a 45 liter tank, 5 cents is only $ 2. at 5 tank refills a month it is 11 € 25. Even for the “little man of the street” this is to be raped, there are not even 2 bags of cigarettes. But it remains to be seen what consequences the Middle East will have on the government’s announced and best-implemented environmental package.

Messrs. Turmes, Gramegna and Kersch reportedly pointed out in December that between February and April the excise tax would be increased between a maximum of 3 and 5 cents, as a special tax against the Tanktorusimus. Dropping these taxes on normal price fluctuations would, of course, already result in a bit more money. In this context, I refer to a nice comment yesterday (09/01/20) in the Luxembourgish word that reflects what I wrote before Christmas.

1.Claude Feyereisen says that the operation of an increase of taxes is limited: “Those who can afford and want high-performance and consumption-intensive cars, can hardly rely on a couple of euros more per tank filling for a more efficient vehicle welding “. That confirmed the Minister of Energy himself on a table ronde. 2. the editorialist should bear in mind that here the Greens are afraid of their own courage. The principle must therefore be borne in mind by the pollueur-payeur, ie: that a car makes a bigger dent that its driver must dig deeper into the bag. But  the government will not pick up this idea, finally it remembers a political cAorpse called Lucien Lux that was sent into Sierra Nevada after his car tax … “and because DP and déi Gréng don’t want to mess with the well-off regular clientele “.Conclusion by Feyereisen: “This widens the social divide and the fronts between supporters of different perspectives continue to harden.”

However, politicians are often so far away from the so-called “man of the road” that it simply doesn’t go in their heads that some people are really dependant on the car. It remains only to be hoped that the jump in prices will actually rise, as in 1973: then Sunday will no car woun’tlonger drive and politics can point the finger at the free market economy. The free space for real environmental policy, however, would become small an smaller.

“… One more round, please. THE Poor PAYS!”
