In late spring of 1995, Shell Petroleum Company decided to demolish its petrol platform Brent Spar by sea. The British Government was informed of this and informed all the other Member States of the European Union. No single country had anything to do with it! Greenpeace themed it and spoke of a secret document: the moment when the platform is released into the sea, 5500 tons of petroleum in its installations would be a disaster for the environment! Why Shell left so much petrol, worth over half a million dollars, was not asked, but it was immediately hung as a scandal to the big bell.
“…At Shell, menaces came in from bomb attacks…”
On June 14 it was shot at a petrol station in Mörfelden-Walldorf, the next day it burned at a station near Hamburg, so the BILD newspaper could read: “First gas station burning!”
But, at that time, the entire press was horrified, without even questioning Greenpeace’s information for only a second. The fun lasted 3 months, until at the beginning of September the London Greenpeace Bureau came up with a brief communication: we were delighted!
F.A.Z. (Frankfurter general newspaper) came to the conclusion: even Greenpeace can be honest! In fact, this was a good staging of a PR gag where a lot of people would have been killed. The revenue from the environmental organization was considerable, the year before the company had to dismiss 90 employees! Had the press been more critical, the whole tragedy of Greenpeace would have flown; the organization was able to count on greasy revenue, because within those three months the donations were naturally rolling.
P
ersonally, I marked the affair as a journalist so that even today I am extremely skeptical of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have the bad habit of portraying themselves as the good, and others who do not on their lies, like the evil ones. It’s also about multinational corporations: Greenpeace earns 360 million euros a year, Oxfam reaches 1.15 billion! It must be borne in mind that such NGOs must also make profits that are generated solely by donations: consequently, the pressure to pay attention is noticeable, and this is best done through alarmism and scandals.
Buzzfeed online magazine recently wrote that WWF would support paramilitary groups in a number of countries; This is not proven, by contrast, Oxfam has apologized for the fact that some of its employees in Haiti had sexually assaulted women. It is clear that such sad incidents can unfortunately always occur in such a large organization, however nervous it is, as little is reported in the international press! Shell and Co’s lobbying is set up as a clean-up, while a laurel wreath is set by an NGO.Love a side panic, like a half-page factual explanation!
Non-governmental organizations can play an important role throughout society. However, that should not mean that we have to believe everything uncritical of what is being blamed by these organizations. The newspaper DIE WELT, March 19, 2019, states: “Apocalypse must be able to afford”. In the article, e.a. Please note … it gives ever less pollutants in the air, but more fear for it … In light of rising life expectancy, growing prosperity, declining mortality, constant technological and social progress enacted black panic. (…) The Giving conscience donation donations is a thrilling business for moral service providers such as Greenpeace, Foodwatch and the German Environmental Aid and the main Moraklapostel.”
